We’ve all said it a time or two, or we have heard someone say something to the effect of: “I want to be healthy, start making healthier decisions, eat better, and go on a diet.” As we all know, there’s a lot of conflicting information about dieting and weight loss these days. In my experience, nutrition is the number one thing that presents a challenge when trying to become healthier or getting fit. The majority of people believe that just because you’re active that means you can eat whatever you want, and however much you want. If you’re working it off, then what’s the problem, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
Whether you’re in the gym or simply just trying to make better choices, it all comes down to that one essential factor: proper nutrition. Be it a beefed-up burger or a tempeh salad, in moderation, either can fuel you to get the best results in your training or everyday life.
Somewhere along the way, we’ve been fooled into believing that the less we eat, the more likely we are to stay model thin or achieve that lean, cut figure. Less calories and minimal carbs equals the perfect equation, or so we’ve been told at some point. But really, you’re almost harming your body in ways that you don’t realize by taking that route.
Nutrient rich diets with calories fuel your body to power through your everyday life, including work, workouts, or even those chores waiting for you at home. What you choose to put in your body can reflect just about everything, from fighting off illnesses, to managing weight, your energy levels, the body’s aging process, healthy brain function, and the natural production of chemicals that your body uses to boost mood. All of these variables contribute to you functioning at your highest level. The nutritional value of foods should always be top priority when making our delicious decisions.
Most days, we tend to feel overworked and as if we are ripping at the seams. But on top of nutrition, to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to create wellness within you, getting a good amount of sleep and reducing stress are key to making strides! Therefore, if you’re struggling to find a plan that works for you, just remember: all you need is a well-balanced diet full of nutrients that your body NEEDS. Which consists of proteins, carbohydrates, healthy fats, water, vitamins, and minerals. The sweeter things are everyone’s weakness, but we can try to do our best to reduce sugar intake and make simple swaps to satisfy those cravings. Making our own meals at home is a great solution also, that way we know just what is going into our bodies!
