Justin Wood

Justin Wood joined the Brandy Austin Law Firm team as an attorney in 2022. He graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Texas at Arlington in December 2018, and graduated magna cum laude from Vermont Law School in May 2021. He was a part of the accelerated honors JD program in law school, graduating a year early, and became a licensed attorney in Texas in October 2021. Following this Texas licensure, he became licensed in New Mexico, Oklahoma, the District of Columbia, and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

While in law school, he was a student clinician with the Vermont Law School Environmental Advocacy Clinic—an organization which provides free legal representation to a wide array of environmental non-profits and NGOs. In 2019, he represented Vermont Law School as a delegate to the Vermont Youth Climate Congress, where representatives from schools across the state came together with state legislative representatives to demand urgent action on the climate crisis. He was also a judicial extern with the Vermont Supreme Court, where he was able to work directly under the Justices in the process of their appellate decision making.

He focused on legal research and writing while in school, earning the academic excellence award for achieving the highest score in his Appellate Advocacy course. His focus was on climate change, and completed an advanced research project examining the intersection of fundamental rights within the U.S. Constitution and anthropogenic climate change. He argued that the U.S. Constitution endows all people and future generations with a fundamental right to live in a stable climate, and that the Constitution demands that the government take affirmative action to protect this right.

At the Firm, Justin represents clients on a wide array of legal matters, including personal injury, contracts, business law, small claims disputes, and probate. Alongside the team, he handles cases from start to finish, from demand letters to trial. His general practice and appellate experience gives him unparalleled skill advocating for clients in complex legal issues—which includes thorough legal research on nuanced substantive and procedural issues of law. He has extensive experience in motions practice and appeals, and has successfully argued cases in front of the Texas Court of Appeals.

Justin believes that community engagement is an essential aspect of legal development and public policy, and strives to maintain an active presence within the Arlington community—both as a representative of the Firm and through volunteering. The role of a lawyer is not just to advocate for individual clients, but to advocate for a more equitable society as a whole. This includes uplifting under-represented community members and ensuring that all people have access to the most essential protections of the law. It also means using the skills obtained as an attorney to advocate for those with little or no voice in our government, and making sure that our justice system is tailored and tweaked to ensure fairness for all.

In his personal life, Justin is an avid artist and musician. He loves to draw—typically digital art pieces, comics, and animations. He was in drumline throughout high school and college, and participated in the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra while in law school. The marimba is his favorite instrument, and he has been playing it for over a decade.
